Allatoona High School senior running back Xavier Rucker announced his decision to decommit from Georgia Tech on Thursday, sharing the news through a post on social media.
“Dear Georgia Tech Football, I want to take a moment to thank you and the entire Georgia Tech staff for the opportunity you have given me throughout this recruiting process,” Rucker wrote on X. “From the beginning, you and your program have treated me with respect and made me feel valued, and that’s something I’ll always appreciate. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to decommit from Georgia Tech and pursue another path that I feel is best for me at this time.
“This was by no means an easy decision. My respect for the program, the people, and the atmosphere at Georgia Tech remains extremely high, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned through this process. I truly appreciate the time, effort, and belief that you and your staff invested in me, and I will always hold great respect for Georgia Tech. Thank you again for everything. My recruitment is now 100% open.”
Rucker had previously committed to play for Georgia Tech in June. At that time he cited a sense of belonging as a reason behind his choice.
“The reason I wanted to join Georgia Tech was because, out of all the schools I went to, they just seemed like the most wholesome, loving family,” Rucker told the MDJ. “They’ve got coaches that actually care for you and want to see you grow as a man. When head coach Brent Key sat me down in his office, he was such a generous person and a cool dude who was relatable.”
During his recruitment process, Rucker selected Georgia Tech over other major programs including Auburn University, Indiana University, Oklahoma State University and Virginia Tech. He also received offers from Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, Liberty University, South Florida (USF), Appalachian State University and Toledo.
According to 247Sports rankings for the class of 2026 prospects nationwide https://247sports.com/, Rucker is listed as the 28th-ranked running back in his class.
In his junior season at Allatoona High School last year Rucker ran 174 times for 1,135 yards with 11 rushing touchdowns while catching 17 passes for 281 yards with two receiving touchdowns.
This season he has taken on more responsibility as a receiver with Allatoona High School; over four games so far he leads his team in receptions with 14 catches totaling 193 yards along with one touchdown reception. On rushing attempts this year he has gained 64 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown.
