New autopsy findings from the Bibb County Coroner’s Office have determined that Ronni Nykole Abbott, a 23-year-old woman found dead beside Rocky Creek Road in south Macon in August, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Coroner Leon Jones confirmed Thursday morning that the cause of death was “blunt force trauma to the head,” following the release of the autopsy results.

Abbott’s body was discovered around 11:30 a.m. on August 28 in a wooded embankment near Rocky Creek Road. According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, she was allegedly struck by a vehicle and her death “appeared to be a hit-and-run fatality.” Sgt. Christopher Williams stated in an email to The Telegraph, “What’s in the media release still stands.”

Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White said at the scene that Abbott had been reported missing one day before deputies located her body. Investigators found her while “following up on the missing persons report,” Mitchell-White explained.

The investigation into Abbott’s death remains ongoing. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on whether any suspects have been identified or arrested as of Thursday.
