A woman’s body was discovered Thursday near the intersection of Rocky Creek Road and Robinhood Road in south Macon, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Leon Jones said the victim, a 23-year-old woman, was found in an embankment in the 2200 block of Rocky Creek Road. The woman had been reported missing from Bibb County on Wednesday, as confirmed by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White stated at the scene that “the woman was found dead while ‘investigators were following up on the missing persons report.'” Mitchell-White added, “The circumstances of the death ‘appeared to be a hit-and-run.'”

The body was located just before 11:30 a.m., and Deputy Coroner Luann Stone pronounced her dead at the scene, according to Mitchell-White. Officials said family members had not yet been notified and that the victim’s name would not be released until relatives were informed.

Personnel from the coroner’s office remained at the location around 12:35 p.m. As of 2:30 p.m., authorities had not clarified whether this incident was under criminal investigation.

This story will be updated as more information is released.
