The U.S. Census Bureau announced on March 10 that it will provide a two-day embargo period for qualified media to review the Vintage 2025 population estimates for U.S. counties, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, as well as Puerto Rico municipios and related areas. The embargo will run from Tuesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time until Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.

The embargoed data will include total population figures and demographic components of change covering the period from April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2025. Media outlets that are registered with the Census Bureau’s embargo site will have early access to these statistics before their public release.

During the embargo period, subscribers may request interviews with Census Bureau experts by contacting the agency via email. The Census Bureau also encourages embargo subscribers to confirm their login credentials by March 23 and provides assistance through its support email address.

According to the announcement, “The embargoed information may not be published, broadcast, posted online, distributed via wire and distribution services, or shared until the public release date and time (Thursday, March 26, at 12:01 a.m. ET).”

This process allows journalists time to prepare accurate coverage of new demographic trends before they become publicly available. Registration for embargo access is available on the Census Bureau’s website.
