Police in Detroit are investigating a case they believe to be a murder-suicide involving a grandmother and her grandson. Officers responded to a call about a shooting at a Detroit residence early on October 9, according to the Detroit News.

Authorities said a 20-year-old man is suspected of shooting his grandmother before turning the gun on himself, as reported by WXYZ. Family members identified the victims as Rosalyn Wordlaw and Corey Oliver, WJBK reported.

Billy Witherspoon, a cousin of Wordlaw, told the news outlet, “She was probably trying to get the gun away from him, and he shot her,” adding that the grandson had previously threatened people with a gun.

Police stated to WXYZ that the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine the sequence of events. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family for this tragic incident,” police told the news outlet.
