Father shot while intervening in fight involving children in Mesquite

A man was shot while intervening in a fight involving his son and other children in Mesquite, Texas, according to local police. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 7.

Authorities from the Mesquite Police Department reported that two boys were attacking another boy when a child with the victim left to seek help. The child returned accompanied by his father and older brother, who then confronted the alleged attackers.

Police said one of the suspects retrieved a firearm and shot the father in the shoulder area before fleeing with another boy. The father was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover, as his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

No ages for those involved have been released by officers. The motive behind the initial altercation remains unclear.

The Mesquite Police Department has asked anyone with information about the shooting or those suspected to contact them at 972-216-6237.

Mesquite is located approximately 15 miles east of Dallas.
