The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has announced the distribution of over $36.2 million in federal grants to 36 communities across the state. The funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through its annual allocation to Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, are intended to support infrastructure and building projects.
This year, $32.2 million will go toward infrastructure improvements while $3.9 million is set aside for various building projects in rural areas. The CDBG program targets non-entitlement local governments, focusing on communities outside large metropolitan areas.
“Community Development Block Grants allow rural Georgians to have access to resources that strengthen their infrastructure, enhance community facilities, and improve overall quality of life,” said Commissioner Nunn. “These grants ensure that local governments are given every opportunity to thrive. When our communities and facilities thrive, so do their citizens.”
Applicants for the grants underwent a competitive evaluation process where proposals were scored and ranked based on merit.
“Community Development Block Grants are an important tool for Georgia’s communities to improve infrastructure,” said DCA Director of Community Finance Kimberly Carter. “This year’s grantees will be able to use these awards to bolster their infrastructure and housing needs.”

The Department of Community Affairs supports neighborhood development, economic growth, government assistance programs, affordable housing initiatives, and volunteerism throughout Georgia. It also helps qualified residents with home purchases, rental housing options, foreclosure prevention, and homelessness services.
