Georgia has been identified as one of the fastest-growing states in 2025, according to U-Haul’s annual Growth Index. While the overall rate of Americans moving between states has declined since the 1980s—from above 10% to single digits, as reported by the United States Census Bureau—Georgia stands out for its high rate of in-migration.

U-Haul, which operates over 24,000 rental locations and has tracked migration trends for 80 years, included Georgia in its top ten growth states. The list is primarily composed of southern and Sun Belt destinations. These rankings suggest that areas with warmer climates and expanding metropolitan regions are drawing more new residents.

The company determines its Growth Index based on data from more than 2.5 million one-way rentals across the U.S. and Canada each year. The ranking reflects net gains or losses by comparing incoming versus outgoing trucks, trailers, and U-Box containers.

While this data does not represent an exact population count, being ranked among the top ten indicates that Georgia remains a popular choice for those relocating within North America.

The Move Buddha site, which aims to help people move more easily, points to several reasons why Georgia may be attracting newcomers.

“U-Hauls touts itself as ‘the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces.'”
