Winter flu activity in Georgia has reached its peak, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting the state at the highest level of flu activity. Neighboring states including South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama are experiencing similar trends.
Recent data from the Georgia Department of Public Health shows that hospitalizations due to influenza increased from 317 to 511 over the past two weeks. Flu-related deaths have also risen, with seven reported in the last two weeks and a total of 29 since October 2025.
Health officials recommend vaccination for everyone older than six months, particularly those who are elderly or immunocompromised. According to information on the Georgia Department of Public Health website: “It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so now is the time to get a flu shot. Even if you get the flu, the vaccine can help prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and, in extreme cases, death.”
Other preventive measures are also encouraged during this period of high flu activity.
