Georgia Serves has announced it will distribute nearly $5 million in federal AmeriCorps funding to 17 organizations throughout the state for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The grants, totaling $4,951,957, will support about 613 AmeriCorps members who will focus on a range of challenges including education, economic opportunities, health, homelessness, disability support, and financial literacy.

The recipients include organizations such as the Atlanta Police Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Breakthrough Atlanta, Inc., Communities in Schools of Georgia, Family Scholar House, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Hands On Atlanta, Kennesaw State University Research and Services Foundation, New American Pathways, One World Link (with two separate programs), Relay Graduate School of Education, Sewa International Inc., Teach for America – Metro Atlanta, The Scholarship Academy Inc., and the University of Georgia Research Foundation (with two projects).

AmeriCorps’ approach is designed so that federal investments are complemented by additional funds from private sources and foundations. This year’s grants are expected to leverage about $3 million from these non-federal partners to extend their reach. More details can be found at https://americorps.gov/.

Additionally, the Corporation for National and Community Service will provide over $3 million in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards to members funded by these grants. Since AmeriCorps began in 1994, more than one million Americans have served through its programs. These individuals have contributed over 1.5 billion hours of service and earned upwards of $3.6 billion in education scholarships; more than $1 billion has gone toward repaying student debt.

Full-time AmeriCorps members who complete a term of service may receive an education award up to $7,395 to use toward college expenses or loan repayment; actual amounts vary depending on member status.

Each year nationwide there are approximately 75,000 AmeriCorps members serving with more than 21,000 schools and nonprofit or community organizations. Their work ranges from disaster recovery to supporting first-generation college students’ access to higher education.

AmeriCorps also supports national efforts by engaging volunteers in activities such as tutoring youth, connecting veterans with jobs, caring for seniors, reducing crime rates in cities across the country and addressing public health crises like the opioid epidemic.

“AmeriCorps is a federal agency that engages millions of Americans in service through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs, leading the nation’s volunteering and service efforts,” according to information provided by Georgia Serves.
