A man holding a shotgun was shot by Henry County police on Sunday morning, marking the second officer-involved shooting in the county over the weekend, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Police responded around 8:45 a.m. to a domestic incident on Brannan Road near McDonough. Upon arrival, officers saw 38-year-old Greg Hamilton outside a residence with a shotgun, the GBI reported.

“Officers repeatedly told Hamilton to drop the shotgun, which he refused. One officer discharged his weapon, hitting Hamilton,” the state agency said.

Hamilton, who is from McDonough, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released further details about his condition.

GBI spokesperson Sara Lue stated that agents were called to investigate at the request of Henry police. On Sunday morning, law enforcement vehicles lined Brannan Road as investigators collected evidence at the scene.

The earlier incident occurred Friday night on Crandon Court, about five miles southwest of Sunday’s shooting. In that case, police responded after receiving reports that a woman had locked herself in her room while her son attempted to break in, according to the GBI.

When officers arrived at Crandon Court, they found the son in an upstairs bedroom armed with a knife. An officer shot and wounded the minor, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during this encounter.

Both shootings are under investigation by the GBI. Once investigations are complete, case files will be submitted to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review.
