Athens and Dahlonega have been named among the most charming downtowns in the United States by HGTV. The network highlighted 40 locations nationwide, recognizing two cities in Georgia for their distinct character and attractions.

HGTV experts described Athens as “a vibrant college town that’s rich in Southern appeal. It’s also well-known for its music scene, thanks to wildly successful hometown bands like R.E.M. and The B-52s.” In addition to its musical heritage, Athens features a variety of shops, restaurants, Victorian-style buildings, and a historic theater.

Dahlonega was noted for its setting in Georgia wine country and historical significance. According to HGTV experts: “This mountain escape is known for wine, waterfalls and gold. That’s because it’s not only located in the heart of Georgia wine country, with nearly two dozen wineries and tasting rooms, but it was also the site of a major gold rush in the 1820s.” Visitors can enjoy live music on most weekends along with shopping options, a candy store, and locally made products.
