Representatives from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) gathered at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center to prepare for contract negotiations with GE Appliances. The Joint Bargaining Committee (JBC), which includes members from IAM, IBEW, UA, and UE, represents unionized service technicians who operate service vans nationwide.
The Negotiation Preparation Program brought together shop committee members and negotiating representatives for several days of training focused on strategic planning, research analysis, and coordinated bargaining across unions. The aim was to ensure that all JBC unions are united and well-informed as they approach discussions with GE Appliances in Louisville, Kentucky.
Participants reviewed contract language, developed proposals, conducted costing exercises, and planned communications strategies. A key focus was engaging union members so that their priorities are represented during negotiations.
Committees worked together to identify shared challenges and exchange best practices. They concentrated on issues such as protecting wages and benefits, improving job security, and enhancing workplace protections.
“This training gives our negotiating committees the tools and confidence they need to fight for the best possible agreement,” said IAM Union Collective Bargaining Director Craig Norman. “Preparation is power, and when we walk into negotiations, we do so with a clear strategy and the full strength of our membership behind us.”
