A man was shot and killed by a woman in her Indiana home after he allegedly began sexually assaulting her, according to the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred on September 28.

Authorities reported that the woman had invited the man to her residence, but he made “several unwanted sexual advances” during the night. Police stated that he later followed her into another room and began to sexually assault her. At that point, she retrieved a firearm and fired one shot at him in self-defense.

Officers responded to the scene and found the man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified him as Malik Phelixis Robinson, 30, according to WTHR.

Police said the woman was also hospitalized for injuries related to the assault. Investigators collected evidence from inside the home which they said supported “the telling of events by the female.”

The case will be reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 317-894-3525.

Cumberland is located approximately 15 miles east of Indianapolis.
