Jen Affleck, known for her role in “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” is participating in the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars” just two months after giving birth to her third child. The 26-year-old actress has previously used dancing as a way to manage postpartum symptoms following her earlier pregnancies.
Affleck was officially announced as part of the new “DWTS” cast on July 1, according to a report from “Today.” In an interview with People published September 3, she discussed how competing on the show is helping her navigate the demands of motherhood and address postpartum challenges.
“I’m still in the thick of postpartum, staying up late, doing feedings and whatnot, so that’s challenging. But honestly, if anything, it’s been helping me,” Jen Affleck told People.
She added: “I’d probably be dealing with baby blues and potentially postpartum depression, which can be the most challenging thing that you can experience after having a baby.”
Affleck announced the birth of her daughter Penelope with husband Zac Affleck via Instagram on July 2. The couple also have two other children: Nora, age three, and Luca, age two.
Despite juggling family responsibilities and dance rehearsals—which she described as leaving her with blisters and soreness—Affleck said it has been beneficial. “I’m definitely making sure to get as much rest as I can, even though that’s challenging with a baby. But if anything, this is filling my cup,” she said.
“It’s filling that cup, which is, in return, helping me become the best version of myself and the best mom that I can be,” Affleck continued.
The full cast for this season was revealed on September 3 by E! News. New additions include Hilaria Baldwin, Jordan Chiles, Baron Davis, Dylan Efron, Corey Feldman, Danielle Fishel, Elaine Hendrix, Scott Hoying, Lauren Jauregui and Andy Richter. They join previously confirmed participants Robert Irwin, Alix Earle; Jen Affleck; and Whitney Leavitt—Affleck’s co-star from “Secret Lives.”
Affleck will be partnered with Jan Ravnik for this season. Ravnik has performed alongside Taylor Swift during her “The Eras” tour and worked with artists such as Paula Abdul and Bruno Mars.
“It’s been fun. It’s fun working with someone who has a lot of energy and is super positive. It’s making this experience even better,” Affleck told People about working with Ravnik.
“I think my family, my husband and my kids are just happy to see me happy,” she added. “Overall it’s been a really positive experience for everyone.”
On September 3rd Zac Affleck expressed his support for his wife on Instagram by posting a photo featuring their family along with Ravnik holding their newborn daughter Penelope.
“Can’t believe this is real! The manifesting Queen,” he wrote in his caption. “Can’t wait to see you live this dream and for the world to see you on the dance floor (Ravnik) get ready to learn how to change some diapers.”
