A 60-year-old Macon man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a person experiencing homelessness from Fort Valley. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced that Timothy Alan Hurt was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force after several weeks of investigation.

Authorities said Hurt is accused of killing 46-year-old Nelson Reynolds Crenshaw last month in a wooded area near Harrison Road, close to a homeless encampment at Eisenhower Parkway and Harrison Road. Coroner Leon Jones previously confirmed the location to The Telegraph.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on August 31 at around 9:30 a.m. regarding a male who had been shot in the 6000 block of Harrison Road. Upon arrival, deputies found Crenshaw unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported him to a nearby medical facility, but he later died from his injuries.

BSO Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White stated via email that Hurt was also homeless.

Investigators identified Hurt as a suspect during their inquiry. He was detained and taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he is being held without bond on a murder charge.

The sheriff’s office encourages anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

Police said, “The case remains under active investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

This story will be updated as new details emerge.
