Improper food storage and temperature control led to two Macon restaurants receiving “C” grades during routine health inspections in August, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s online portal.
Super Taco Deli, located at 5033 Brookhaven Road, Suite 60, received a score of 70 on August 15. The restaurant improved its performance with a follow-up inspection on August 22, achieving a score of 99 and earning an “A” for food safety excellence.
US Deli at 1477 Pio Nono Ave., Suite 101, was given a score of 77 on August 25. The establishment also improved quickly, obtaining a perfect score of 100 at its follow-up inspection.
State Environmental Health inspectors use a grading system based on points deducted from an initial total of 100. A grade of “C” is assigned for scores between 70 and 79. Restaurants that receive either a “U” for unsatisfactory compliance or a “C” are required to undergo follow-up inspections within about ten days.
During the reporting period from August 1 to August 31, most restaurants in Macon-Bibb County received “A” grades during their routine health inspections. Fewer than twelve establishments achieved perfect scores of 100. Four restaurants were graded with a “B,” while none received a failing grade of “U.”
The Super Taco Deli’s violations included raw chicken stored above raw beef in a reach-in cooler, creating the potential for cross contamination. Other issues were noted in the inspection report.
At US Deli, one violation involved storing raw shrimp above eggs and vegetables in a walk-in cooler, which also posed risks for cross contamination. Additional violations were cited in the report.
Restaurant inspections are conducted to protect public health. The Telegraph reviews these reports each month.
