The Macon Witches Float will return this year after last year’s event was canceled due to flooding and damage from Hurricane Helene. The event, which began in 2021, invites participants to float, row, or paddle along the Ocmulgee River in Halloween costumes. It benefits Macon Periods Easier, a local initiative aimed at addressing period poverty in Macon-Bibb County by providing access to menstrual products.
This year’s float is scheduled for October 5, launching from the Jay Hall Memorial Canoe Launch at Amerson River Park at 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to check in at the tent near Porter Pavilion between 2 p.m. and launch time. Shuttles will be available for paddlers and their gear.
Rental options include kayaks, canoes, inflatable stand-up paddleboards, and tandem kayaks for those without their own flotation devices. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and decorate their crafts for the occasion.
A guest judge will choose a “Best Dressed” participant who will receive a $100 gift card presented by Visit Macon. Donating period products enters guests into a prize drawing that includes a free paddle excursion from Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions.
Tickets are on sale online with prices ranging from $20 to $85.
