Teasha Ariele Colbert, 42, was found dead near her east Macon home on Thursday. According to the Bibb County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices, her body was discovered in a trash can at Sanford Arms Apartments, located behind CVS on Gray Highway and Shurling Drive. The sheriff’s office is treating the case as a homicide.

Colbert lived just houses away from where she was found. Her younger sister, Sandy Colbert, described Teasha as someone who brought energy and laughter to those around her. “She was the oldest, but she had the spirit of the youngest,” Sandy Colbert said. “She knew about makeup, lashes and nails, and she was into all the beauty trends.”

Friends became concerned when they did not hear from Teasha on Thursday morning. Sandy went to her sister’s apartment and noticed that Teasha’s gray Toyota Camry was parked outside with her purse and water cup still inside. “If it just would’ve been her purse, I probably wouldn’t have thought about it but my sister would not go anywhere without her cup. … So I kind of felt like something was wrong,” Sandy Colbert told The Telegraph.

After calling 911 to report Teasha missing, deputies found her body soon after. As of Friday, investigators had not released details about how she died or identified a suspect.

Teasha Colbert worked as a security guard for Allied Universal and often provided services at Tractor Supply stores. Her sister noted that she was brave both at work and in personal life. “She was a security guard, she just needed somebody to protect her,” Sandy Colbert said. “Nobody was there.”

The sisters were born just over a year apart in Forsyth and shared a close bond throughout their lives. Teasha would often encourage Sandy to cook elaborate meals by playfully challenging her skills in the kitchen.

“She would just always hype me up … Sometimes she would just trick me like, ‘I bet you don’t know how to cook,’ and I’d be like, ‘Yes I do!’ and I’d fix her a plate,” Sandy recalled.

Despite their different personalities—Teasha being outgoing while Sandy described herself as more reserved—the sisters maintained a strong relationship.

“I’m like the old lady, but she was like the vibrant party girl,” Sandy Colbert said. “I just let Teasha be Teasha, and she’d let me be me.”

Sandy also remembered that Teasha enjoyed swimming at Savannah beaches and visiting casinos.

“My sister would want me to keep going and enjoying my life, and most importantly keep being a good mother,” Sandy Colbert said. “She loved my daughter dearly, I just got to keep pushing forward.”
