A man who assaulted other inmates while held at the Bibb County Jail has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to a statement from the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Dequavia Pollard pleaded guilty on Tuesday to violating his probation after he attacked fellow inmates during his time in jail.

Pollard was previously on probation under the First Offender Act for assault and robbery charges related to a 2019 case. His probation was revoked as part of the new sentence. The district attorney’s office said Pollard will receive credit for time already served.

At the time of these assaults, Pollard was incarcerated at the Bibb County Jail facing murder charges connected to two separate deaths: Calvin Hughley Jr. on August 19, 2023, and Clifford Browner on January 14, 2024. Court records indicate those cases are still pending and Pollard has not been convicted of those offenses.

Surveillance footage from October 5, 2024, showed Pollard attacking two inmates with a shank—a homemade stabbing weapon—causing puncture wounds. This incident led to indictments for two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possessing a prohibited item while incarcerated.

Another attack occurred on April 2, 2025, when Pollard stabbed an inmate in the chest and arm. A corporal reviewing surveillance video observed Pollard lunging at another inmate during this incident. Contraband items were later found in the area where it happened.

District Attorney Anita Howard stated, “When someone uses that second chance to commit more crime, as this defendant did repeatedly while in custody, they must face the full consequences under the law. This 20-year sentence holds him accountable for his actions and protects our community from further harm.”

Pollard also failed to report to his probation officer after being released on November 14, 2023, provided an incorrect address to officials, and did not complete court-ordered rehabilitation requirements before being arrested again on January 19, 2024.
