A Maryland resident recently won $50,000 from a Pick 5 lottery ticket purchased at a Baltimore gas station. According to the Maryland Lottery, the woman selected her numbers—8-1-6-5-1—based on her birthday for the Aug. 29 drawing.

She learned of her win when she returned to the store to check her ticket and saw “Winner!” displayed. To confirm, she checked again using the Maryland Lottery app and realized she was indeed holding a $50,000 winning ticket.

“She was holding a $50,000 ticket,” officials stated in a news release issued Sept. 2.

The winner shared the news with her family members, who were also surprised by her good fortune. She plans to use part of the prize money for home renovations and will save the rest.

Despite this being her largest lottery win so far, she has no intention of stopping. “I’ve always played (lottery games),” she said. “It’s a part of my life, and now that I’ve won, I hope to have even more success in the future.”

The woman described the experience as “like a dream come true.”
