Social media personalities Matt and Abby Howard have announced the loss of their unborn daughter at 17 weeks gestation. The couple, who are known for their presence on TikTok with over 5.3 million followers and as podcast hosts, shared the news on Instagram on September 27.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we share about the loss of our baby girl born far too soon,” Abby Howard wrote in her post.

The pregnancy loss occurred a month after they publicly revealed their third pregnancy on August 20. At that time, the Howards expressed excitement about expanding their family, writing, “Baby no. 3 is on the way! It somehow almost feels more exciting this third time around because now we truly know just how wonderful it is.”

In her recent update, Abby Howard described learning of the loss during a routine prenatal appointment when doctors could not detect a heartbeat. An ultrasound confirmed their fears. “I am so sorry I do not have good news,” she recalled being told by the technician.

Abby explained that this was also when they learned both the gender and that their daughter had a genetic condition that ended her life at approximately 17 weeks into the pregnancy.

The couple has two sons: Griffin, age 3, and August, age 2. Reflecting on the experience, Abby wrote, “The news felt unimaginable. The grief is absolutely devastating. But we feel so much gratitude for the time that we did get to have with her. And we still have hope.” She thanked supporters for their encouragement as they consider ways to honor their daughter’s memory privately.

Earlier in September, Matt Howard posted a behind-the-scenes video documenting preparations for their pregnancy announcement and discussed expectations regarding whether they might have another boy or a girl. He said in his voiceover, “I’m one of three brothers, so it just makes sense to me if this baby is a boy. But then again, I would love it if we had a miniature version of Abby running around.” He also questioned naming conventions: “We haven’t decided on a baby name yet. But why is it that it’s so common for people to name their sons after the father, but nobody’s naming their daughter after the mom?” Abby replied in agreement: “You’re right. I think this family needs another Abby.”

Support from friends and fellow influencers has poured in via social media comments following the announcement. Sadie Robertson wrote: “I’m so so sorry… praying for y’all.” Emilie Kiser commented: “I’m so incredibly sorry sending you love and comfort. Here for you.” Tori Roloff added: “I am so sorry Abby. This is by far the hardest thing a mama (and dad) can go through!! I am praying for your strength!” Abigail Howard also shared support by writing: “Love you guys so much.”
