Mellow Mushroom has announced plans to reopen its Decatur location this fall, positioning it as the brand’s flagship store. The restaurant, currently closed for renovations, will feature a redesigned exterior and interior, new murals by local artist Ben Janik, updated bar and patio areas, and a dedicated to-go window.

Founded in Atlanta in 1974, Mellow Mushroom operates 160 locations across 16 states. While most of these are locally owned and operated to maintain a unique community presence, the Decatur store will be company-owned when it reopens on W. Ponce de Leon Ave. The location first opened in 2016.

The Decatur flagship will serve as a testing ground for exclusive menu items before they are considered for broader release at other stores. The company’s Grant Park site is also company-owned, but the Decatur location’s proximity to Mellow Mushroom’s Atlanta headquarters makes it the brand’s primary full-service restaurant.

“Mellow Mushroom is Atlanta-founded and -based, and we’re committed to our presence in Decatur alongside the city’s vibrant community spirit,” said Ahsan Jiva, EVP of Strategy at Mellow Mushroom. “This location means a lot to Mellow Mushroom, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to return with new energy, reconnect and deliver the best-possible guest experience for the neighborhood.”

In addition to their signature hand-tossed pizzas baked on stone, Mellow Mushroom offers calzones, hoagies, salads, sweets, gluten-free and vegan options. Beverage offerings include specialty cocktails and mocktails as well as wines and local beers.
