Dr. Penny L. Elkins, recently appointed as Mercer University’s 19th president, is seeking feedback from the university community to help shape its future direction.

At a news conference on January 5, Dr. Elkins outlined her vision for Mercer University. “Mercer University is the most uniquely impactful private research university in the world,” she said. “And at the heart of my presidency are three commitments that will honor and provide evidence to why I can say that with such confidence.”

The three main priorities Dr. Elkins identified are expanding and enlarging impact for Mercer students, growing Mercer’s academic enterprise, and telling Mercer’s story clearly and authentically.

To gather input on these goals, students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in an online survey and attend a series of Future Forward Forums scheduled across multiple campuses during January. The forums will be held in Atlanta on January 13, Columbus on January 14, Macon on January 15, Savannah on January 27, and virtually via Zoom on January 28 for regional centers or those unable to attend in person.

“It is incredibly important to me that I will listen first, and I will listen well, and then we will in fact align strategic priorities around these three commitments,” Dr. Elkins said.

Community members are encouraged to complete the survey by January 12 ahead of the forum dates.

“We want the feedback from all of you in the Mercer community,” Dr. Elkins said.
