Law enforcement officials reported that James Edward Daniels, convicted in Miami for kidnapping, torture, and murder, was mistakenly released from jail last week. He was later found hiding at the home of Timishea Price, a councilmember in Reynolds, Georgia.
According to Lonnie Holder, chief of the Reynolds Police Department, U.S. Marshals arrived at Price’s residence on Mimms Street and asked if Daniels was present. “Ms. Price responded in the negative,” stated the police news release. “Ms. Price consented to a search of the residence by the U.S. Marshals,” police said. “James Edward Daniels was found and apprehended inside the residence ….”
Price has been charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal as a result of these events. She was briefly held at Taylor County Jail but released Thursday evening after posting a $5,000 bond.
Timishea Price represents Post 5 on Reynolds’ city council and began her term in January 2022, according to information on the city’s website. In previous comments to the Lupus Foundation of America’s Georgia chapter, she noted that she is originally from Miami.
Reynolds City Clerk Sissy Laughlin stated Friday that she could not comment about Price’s status on city council due to an ongoing investigation.
As of Friday, there were no details available regarding when Price would appear in court for her charge. Attempts by The Telegraph to reach her for comment have been unsuccessful.
Daniels had previously been sentenced to multiple life terms for his role in crimes committed against Osmar Oliva, Julio Verdecia, and Juan Gonzalez in December 2020; Oliva and Gonzalez were killed while Verdecia survived.
Court documents indicate Daniels was released “in error” by Florida corrections officials on September 26; other reports suggest he may have been released September 27 instead.
Following his arrest in Reynolds by U.S. Marshals Service officers, Daniels was scheduled for a federal court appearance in Macon on Thursday; however, records show this appearance was canceled. It remains unclear whether he has since been transferred back to Miami.
The investigation into both Daniels’ release and subsequent capture continues.
