A Powerball ticket sold in North Carolina has won $100,000 after matching four winning numbers, the Power Play, and the Powerball during the Saturday, September 27 drawing, according to officials from the North Carolina Education Lottery. The ticket was purchased at Bob’s Pit Stop in Hendersonville, about 25 miles south of Asheville.
The winning numbers for that drawing were 10, 16, 32, 61 and 66 with a Powerball of 4. The Power Play multiplier was set at 2x. No tickets matched all five white balls plus the red Powerball needed to win the jackpot. As a result, the jackpot has increased to an estimated $160 million for the next drawing on Monday, September 29. The cash value of that prize is approximately $74.2 million.
In addition to the North Carolina winner, nearly 580,000 other tickets across the United States won prizes ranging from $4 up to $100,000 in this drawing.
The last time someone won the top prize was on September 6 when players from Missouri and Texas split a grand prize worth $1.787 billion.
To win the jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls along with the red Powerball. The odds of doing so are about one in 292 million.
Powerball drawings are held three times a week—Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays—at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time and can be streamed online. Tickets are available for purchase on drawing days but sales deadlines and prices differ by state.
Powerball is played in most U.S. states as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
