A North Carolina police officer and an emergency medical technician have been arrested in connection with a child sexual abuse investigation, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Jennifer Aree Myers, 44, formerly of the Brookford Police Department in Catawba County, and Benjamin Geoffrey Myers, 38, a Davidson County EMT, were taken into custody on September 26.

Both individuals face charges of felony accessing government computers and obstruction of justice. The sheriff’s office said their actions resulted in the destruction of “key evidence” at the start of the investigation.

The case centers on Jeremy Lanning Amburn, 43, who is under investigation for alleged child sexual abuse reported on August 25. Authorities say the incidents occurred at a residence in Denton as well as other nearby locations. Angela Carpenter Amburn, 40, is accused by officials of actively facilitating the abuse.

According to investigators, Jennifer and Benjamin Myers accessed details about the ongoing investigation through government computer systems and notified Jeremy Amburn. This led to evidence being destroyed before it could be collected by law enforcement.

The two suspects are married to each other and are friends with Jeremy and Angela Amburn—who are also married—according to deputies cited by WFMY-TV.

Jennifer Myers was terminated from her position with Brookford Police Department on September 26 following her arrest. She had joined the department earlier that summer and was still undergoing training under supervision at the time she lost her job.

Davidson County EMS director Alton Hanes confirmed that Benjamin Myers ceased working as an EMT on September 29.

As of September 30, both Jennifer and Benjamin Myers remain detained at Davidson County Detention Center. The sheriff’s office stated: “Benjamin is being held on a $1,500 secured bond and Jennifer is being held on a $5,000 secured bond.”

Benjamin Myers has a court date set for December 1; Jennifer Myers is scheduled to appear in court on December 2.

Denton is located approximately sixty miles northeast of Charlotte.
