Authorities responded to a report of an active shooter at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) in Macon on Monday afternoon, but found no evidence of a threat, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Christopher Williams said the sheriff’s office received a call from CGTC shortly after 1 p.m., reporting an alleged active shooter on campus who was demanding an undisclosed amount of money. The caller threatened to “carry out acts of threats against the students here on the campus” if their demands were not met, Williams stated.
Law enforcement officers from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol assisted campus police in evacuating and clearing the college. Around 1:50 p.m., CGTC posted a notice on Facebook instructing students at the Macon campus to shelter in place. Within an hour, normal operations resumed after deputies did not find any suspects, violence or injuries, according to Williams.
During this time, Rutland High School and Board of Education Campus Police also reported receiving a similar threat. Campus police at Rutland High determined “there were no injuries, no signs of an active shooting whatsoever, or any shot fired, period,” Williams said.
The incident remains under investigation and authorities have not yet identified a suspect responsible for the false calls.
