Police in Illinois have arrested Gregory Hudson, 65, of Chicago, on charges including murder, concealing a homicide, kidnapping, arson and sexual assault. The arrest took place Thursday, Sept. 11.

The investigation began after firefighters responded to a garage fire on Chicago’s south side. After extinguishing the flames, authorities discovered the remains of a woman inside a bag in the garage. Police said the victim was a 36-year-old woman but did not release her name.

Witnesses reported seeing a man leave a vehicle, carry a bag into the garage and pour liquid around the structure before departing. Investigators later located the vehicle and arrested its owner.

“Investigation revealed the owner of the vehicle was responsible for the murder of the victim who was found inside the burning garage,” authorities said.

During their inquiry, police learned that Hudson had kidnapped another woman. She was with him when he was apprehended by officers. Authorities stated that this second victim had been sexually assaulted and witnessed Hudson kill the first woman.

According to police statements provided to WBBM, Hudson shot his victim to death. Officials also noted that Hudson is a “four-time convicted felon.”
