Powerball players across the United States won millions in prizes during the latest drawing, but no ticket matched all six numbers to claim the $1.03 billion jackpot, according to lottery officials.
On Saturday, August 30, tickets sold in Colorado, Indiana, and New Hampshire matched five winning numbers plus the Power Play multiplier. Each of these tickets is worth $2 million. In Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, tickets matched five numbers without the Powerball for a $1 million prize each.
In California, where lottery prize amounts vary based on ticket sales and winners, four players won $1.1 million each.
A total of 115 players nationwide matched four numbers plus the Powerball to win $50,000 each. Another 27 players who added the Power Play multiplier saw their winnings increase to $150,000.
The winning numbers drawn were 3, 18, 22, 27 and 33 with a Powerball of 17. The Power Play multiplier was three times.
No one claimed the grand prize in this drawing. The jackpot now rises to an estimated $1.1 billion for the next drawing on Monday, September 1. The cash value for that prize is about $498.4 million.
More than 4.7 million other tickets also won prizes ranging from $4 up to $150,000.
The last time someone hit the Powerball jackpot was May 31 when a player in California won a grand prize of $204.5 million.
To win the top prize in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball number. The odds of doing so are about one in 292 million.
Tickets can be purchased on drawing days; sales times and prices differ by state. Drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays and are available for streaming online.
Powerball is available in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
