A Powerball ticket purchased at a Gate Service Station in Jacksonville, Florida, won $1 million in the drawing held on Saturday, August 30. According to the Florida Lottery, the ticket matched five winning numbers but did not match the Powerball number.
In addition to the winner in Florida, tickets sold in Colorado, Indiana, and New Hampshire matched five numbers plus the Power Play multiplier, each earning $2 million. Other tickets sold in Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania also matched five numbers without the Powerball to win $1 million each. Four players in California won $1.1 million apiece due to state-specific prize adjustments.
The winning numbers for this drawing were 3, 18, 22, 27 and 33 with a Powerball of 17. The Power Play multiplier was three times.
No one claimed the grand prize of $1.03 billion; as a result, the jackpot increases to an estimated $1.1 billion for the next drawing scheduled for Monday, September 1. The cash value for this jackpot is about $498.4 million.
One hundred fifteen players nationwide matched four white balls plus the Powerball to win $50,000 each; twenty-seven of those added the Power Play option and won $150,000 each.
More than 4.7 million other tickets across the United States earned prizes ranging from $4 up to $150,000 during this draw.
The last time someone won a Powerball jackpot was on May 31 when a player in California secured a grand prize worth $204.5 million.
Powerball drawings take place every Saturday, Monday and Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET and are broadcast live as well as streamed online. The game is available in forty-five states along with Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
To win the jackpot prize in Powerball requires matching all five white balls drawn along with the red Powerball number. The odds of doing so are one in over two hundred ninety-two million.
Tickets can be bought up until just before each drawing but sales cut-off times and ticket prices differ by state.
