A homemade bomb was found in a Bremerton, Washington home after the resident’s death, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. The discovery occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, when a family member was cleaning out the house in an unincorporated area of Bremerton.

Deputies said the device was located under the deceased man’s bed. It measured about four inches long and was described as “wrapped in tape with a fuse sticking out of one end.”

A bomb squad responded to the scene and examined the device using an X-ray. According to authorities, it contained “a powdered substance believed to be explosive.” The bomb squad removed the device for disposal.

Bremerton is situated west of Seattle, across Puget Sound.
