A dog named Wildcat is seeking a new home after being rescued from Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina and later surrendered by his adoptive family. The Charleston Animal Society described Wildcat as having a “sweet, social nature and love for treats” in a recent Facebook post.
Wildcat was first found in poor condition last December. He was adopted soon after but returned to the shelter in mid-August, according to Kay Hyman, spokesperson for the Charleston Animal Society. Hyman said, “According to his previous owners he has shown the ability to escape by bolting out of the door (if he escapes he requires a car to catch him, he does not stop). While we have not seen anything else here, he may try other methods to get out as well, if given the opportunity.”
The shelter recommends that Wildcat’s next owner be attentive and consider training due to his tendency to run off. Because of his likely prey drive, they also advise against placing him in a home with small pets.
Despite these challenges, Wildcat has been described at the shelter as a “fun-loving, loyal companion” who behaves well during car rides. The animal society added, “Though he’s brave in many ways, he’s still a baby when it comes to thunder and would love a cozy spot to feel safe. Wildcat is the perfect mix of playful, cuddly, and charming, ready to bring joy and laughter into any home.”
As of September 12th, Wildcat remains available for adoption through the Charleston Animal Society. Information about adopting him can be found on their website at https://charlestonanimalsociety.org/.
