A senior dog named Wendy has been adopted from Paws Chicago after spending more than 500 days at the shelter. The Illinois-based animal welfare organization announced the milestone in a video shared on September 1, which showed Wendy celebrating with staff and supporters.

“It’s never too late to find your people — 13-year-old Wendy is finally home!” the shelter stated in its social media post, highlighting her journey.

According to Paws Chicago, Wendy arrived at the shelter over 500 days ago in poor health. “Wendy came to us over 500 days ago. She was underweight, had multiple masses on her body that would need to be removed, and she was struggling in the shelter environment. Lots of recovery and several foster stays later, Wendy is our 90,000th adoption since our founding in 1997!” the organization said.

Wendy’s adoption also marked a significant milestone for Paws Chicago: she became their 90,000th adoption since opening their doors in 1997. The shelter noted that her foster family decided to make her a permanent member of their household after caring for her since April.

The announcement also recognized everyone who has supported or adopted animals from Paws Chicago over the years. “We share that accomplishment with each and every one of you who has welcomed a PAWS pet into your hearts and homes,” the shelter said.

“Seeing the happiness and excitement of new families leaving our Adoption Center together, and getting updates from you all over the years, is our favorite part of the work we do. Thank you x90,000 today.”
