Sheinelle Jones, co-host of NBC’s “Today” show, will return to the program this Friday after the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh. The announcement was made by her colleague Savannah Guthrie during Tuesday’s broadcast.
Jones will first appear on the September 5 episode and then resume her regular role as co-host. On her return, she is scheduled to participate in an interview with Guthrie where she will discuss how she and her children are coping with their loss. According to “Today,” Jones describes her experience as a “beautiful nightmare” and aims to share a message of hope for others experiencing hardship.
Ojeh’s death was first shared publicly on the May 23 episode of “Today.” Guthrie stated, “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.” She continued, “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Jones and Ojeh were married for 17 years and have three children: Kayin, age 15; and twins Uche and Clara, age 12. The couple met at Northwestern University when Jones was a freshman and Ojeh visited as a high school senior. They married in 2007 following nine years together.
Following Ojeh’s passing, Jones wrote on Instagram: “Thank you, for all of your love and support.”
