A man from South Carolina won $2 million after purchasing a scratch-off ticket at a Harris Teeter supermarket in Summerville, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, told lottery officials, “I didn’t let it shake me up.” He added that he is “taking it all in stride” after learning about his prize.

The odds of winning the top prize in the Double Up! game were 1 in 1.08 million. The man bought the $20 ticket while grocery shopping, a routine that he says led to his win.

Previously, the same individual won $10,000 playing the lottery, but he said this new amount is life-changing. “I’m buying a house,” he said. “I’ve been very lucky.”

After taxes, the winner took home $1.4 million. His reaction stands out compared to other lottery winners; for example, McClatchy News reported in 2023 that an Army veteran in Maryland struggled to contain his emotions after winning.
