Swimmer dies at San Francisco’s Aquatic Park Cove; friends recall his passion for open water

Nikolas Tomasevic, 35, was found dead after disappearing while swimming at Aquatic Park Cove in San Francisco, according to a statement from local police. Authorities said Tomasevic vanished on Saturday, August 23. His body was recovered near the cove on Tuesday, August 26 by the police marine unit, dive team, and volunteer divers.

Friends described Tomasevic as an avid swimmer. “Our best friend, cousin, brother, son went to do what he loved the most and never came back,” friends wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help return his body to Serbia. They also stated: “The Dolphin Club was his happy place and he left us doing what he loved the most, swimming in the Bay,” remembering him as a “kind, selfless, decent, human being.”

The Dolphin Club is an open water swimming organization located at Aquatic Park Cove.

San Francisco police have asked anyone with information related to the incident to call 415-575-4444.
