A 22-month-old boy died after being left alone in his car seat to watch television, according to authorities in Dalton, Georgia. The incident occurred on June 5, when police responded to a call at the home of Anthony Pedigo, 30, and Kirsten Schmitt, 26.

Police stated that Schmitt and Pedigo had buckled their son, Grayson Pedigo, into his car seat so he could watch TV. According to officials, Schmitt was initially watching television with the child before leaving him alone for approximately 30 to 40 minutes while she went to wake Pedigo for his work shift.

When both adults returned from the bedroom, they found Grayson unresponsive. Authorities reported that the toddler had injuries “consistent with having the seat belt and buckle around his neck” before he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

On September 22, Schmitt and Pedigo were arrested on charges of murder and cruelty to children. Dalton is located about 90 miles northwest of Atlanta.
