The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated statistics on state-to-state migration and place of birth for 2024. The new data offers insight into patterns of geographic mobility across the United States, including movement between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and international arrivals.
According to the announcement, the State-to-State Migration Flows table provides estimates on how many people moved between different states and territories, as well as from abroad to the United States. Another table details where current residents were born, breaking down populations by their place of birth within each state and territory.
These statistics are based on findings from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, a comprehensive annual survey conducted by the Census Bureau to measure population trends and demographic changes across the country.
The information is intended to help policymakers, researchers, and the public understand how populations shift within the United States and from other countries.
