The U.S. Census Bureau has released the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for August 2025. The BFS offers updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States, providing data at the national, regional, and state levels. This dataset includes both seasonally adjusted and nonseasonally adjusted figures.

The BFS is a standard product from the Census Bureau, created in partnership with economists from several institutions: the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

In addition to national data, the Census Bureau has published Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications. This experimental release presents four monthly series specific to Puerto Rico and applies the same methodology as used in existing BFS reports.

There is no news release associated with this announcement; it was issued as a tip sheet only.
