Unichem Pharmaceuticals has issued a recall for one lot of its muscle relaxer product after discovering that bottles labeled as Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride 10 mg tablets may actually contain Meloxicam 7.5 mg tablets, which are used to treat arthritis.
According to the company’s notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), at least one bottle labeled as containing Cyclobenzaprine was found to contain Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug intended for arthritis treatment. The recall affects 90-count bottles from lot number GMML24026A with an expiration date of September 2027.
“For patients who unknowingly take Meloxicam there is a reasonable probability of serious adverse events, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal, anaphylaxis, and skin reactions,” the recall risk statement says.
The risk is higher for people who are already taking blood thinners or other anti-inflammatory drugs, those allergic to Meloxicam, or individuals with certain pre-existing medical conditions.
Cyclobenzaprine tablets can be identified by their blue color and markings: “12” on one side and “U” on the other. In contrast, Meloxicam tablets are yellow with “U & L” on one side and “7.5” on the other.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled medication are advised to return it to their pharmacy. Questions about the recall should be directed to Inmar at 877-840-5109 or rxrecalls@inmar.com during business hours Monday through Friday. Pharmacies are being asked to notify customers and coordinate returns through Inmar.
Anyone experiencing health issues after taking these medications should seek medical attention immediately. The FDA encourages reporting any adverse effects via its MedWatch program either online or by calling 800-332-1088 for further instructions on submitting a report.
