District 1 Commissioner Valerie Wynn was elected mayor pro tempore by the Macon-Bibb County Commission on Tuesday, following the resignation of former Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark. Wynn, who has served as a commissioner since 2018, won the position in a 5-3 vote over District 2 Commissioner Paul Bronson.

The role of mayor pro tempore allows Wynn to act in place of the mayor if the mayor is absent or if the office becomes vacant. In a statement posted to her Facebook page, Wynn said, “I am grateful to have been elected to this role and am looking forward to working alongside Mayor Miller.”

Clark announced his resignation from the commission on social media Monday. According to the Macon-Bibb charter, because more than 12 months remain in Clark’s term, a special election will be required to fill his seat. District 5 will not have a representative until a new commissioner is sworn in.
