A venomous timber rattlesnake was removed from the playground of a Burger King restaurant in west Macon, according to a statement posted Tuesday by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
Deputies reported that the snake was first seen moving across the parking lot at the Burger King on Romeiser Drive before it entered the children’s playground area. Staff members quickly blocked off access to the playground for customers while animal enforcement officers were called to handle the situation.
After being captured, deputies said the rattlesnake was given the nickname “Sir Buzzy Pants.” The sheriff’s office noted that “the venomous snake was then released unharmed and far away from humans.”
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office did not provide information about how often such incidents occur in Macon. However, according to information from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, timber rattlesnakes are commonly found throughout Georgia except for some areas in the extreme southwestern part of the state. These snakes are often found near old homesites and barns because these locations offer cover and attract their prey. The department also notes that timber rattlesnakes tend to be shy and generally avoid contact with people.
