A Culpeper woman has won a $100,000 prize after buying a scratch-off lottery ticket in Virginia. Barbara Ann Geris claimed the first jackpot in the 10X The Money game, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Geris said she initially received a lottery ticket as a birthday gift from a friend and won $5. She used those winnings to purchase another $5 ticket at a Walmart located in Manassas.
While her friend was driving her home, Geris scratched off the new ticket and realized she had won the top prize. “Stop the car! Stop the car!” she told lottery officials she yelled after seeing her win.
The odds of winning one of three top prizes in this scratch-off game are 1-in-1,142,400, based on information from the Virginia Lottery. The 10X The Money game began in June. Culpeper is located about 70 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
